How the generator builds names
Each category combines curated word parts rather than picking from a fixed list, which is why you can keep generating without running out. Fantasy and elf names join sound fragments chosen to fit the style of the genre. Usernames pair an adjective with a noun and optionally a number. Full names draw a first name and a surname from separate pools. Because the parts are combined at random, the same name will rarely appear twice.
What makes a name feel right
Names that work tend to be easy to say out loud, distinctive in their first syllable, and consistent with the world they belong to. Fantasy naming leans on soft consonants and flowing vowels for elves, and hard consonants and short syllables for dwarves, which is why the two feel so different even when the letter counts are similar. For usernames the priorities are different: memorable, typeable, and unlikely to already be taken.
Using generated names
Names produced here are free to use for characters, pets, projects and accounts. Because they are assembled from common word parts, a generated name may coincide with a real person, business or trademark. Before using one commercially, particularly for a business or product, check trademark registers and domain availability first.
Getting better results
- Generate a large batch and shortlist rather than judging one at a time. Good names tend to stand out immediately from a list.
- Say each candidate out loud. Names that look good written down often turn out to be awkward to pronounce.
- For usernames, check availability on the platform before settling, since the best ones are usually taken.
- Mix and match across generations. Taking the first part of one result and the second part of another often gives the best outcome.
- For characters, check the name does not clash with a well-known one in the same genre.
